Impact Assessment LCA

PLNTmatter Fiber-Level Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) Summary

Methodology: BCOME v1.6
Scope: Seed to Gate (fiber stage)
Date of Completion: 2020 (Clean Agency); 2022 Verified via BCOME Methodology 1.6
Assessed Product: PLNTmatter Tree-Free Regenerative CleanBamboo® Lyocell Fiber

📌 Goal and Scope

The objective of this LCA was to evaluate the environmental performance of PLNTmatter’s regenerative lyocell fiber made from organic bamboo. The system boundary covers cradle-to-gate phases—from cultivation through to processed fiber output.

This LCA was conducted in partnership with Clean Agency in 2020, utilizing primary data from our suppliers for cultivation, pulping, and manufacturing. It was reviewed and modeled under BCOME’s standardized Methodology v1.6, ensuring consistency with ISO 14040/14044 protocols.

🔍 Key Impact Categories Assessed

The following impact categories were assessed at the fiber level:

  • Global Warming Potential (COâ‚‚-eq emissions)

  • Wastewater and Water Consumption

  • Eutrophication (terrestrial & aquatic)

  • Fossil Fuel Depletion

  • Land Use Change

  • Chemical and Energy Input Intensity

🌱 Results Summary

Impact Category CleanBamboo® Lyocell Fiber Compared to Conventional Lyocell
Carbon Emissions (CO₂-eq) ↓ 22% Reduced climate impact
Wastewater Generation ↓ 58% Substantially lower discharge
Eutrophication Potential ↓ 42% Reduced nutrient runoff
Fossil Fuel Use ↓ 42% Lower dependency
Land Use Change Low Regenerative cultivation system
Chemical Load Lower Closed-loop lyocell processing

âś… Additional Features

  • Modeled using primary operational and supplier data across the supply chain

  • Validated in collaboration with Clean Agency (2020)

  • Feedstocks are traceable and non-invasive, verified against sourcing and land use protocols

  • Results benchmarked using BCOME LCA 1.6 methodology, built on ISO LCA standards
